Why visit Qeparo Beach?
Qeparo Beach lies south of Himarë, between Porto Palermo and Borsh. Its pebble shoreline, stone promenade and waterfront buildings give it the character of a small coastal settlement rather than an isolated cove.
It works well for travellers who want swimming and food within the same compact beachfront area. Its quieter reputation is relative, however: Qeparo remains part of the busy Albanian Riviera, and the shore feels more developed and pressured during the summer peak.

Qeparo is reached from the Riviera road between Himarë and Borsh. Driving is the more flexible option, while no-car access depends on seasonal local transport.

A day here revolves around the water, the promenade and the contrast between coastal Qeparo and the older settlement above it.
Qeparo is best approached as a village beach rather than a secluded natural escape. Swimming, lunch and a promenade walk can all fit into an unhurried day, while Old Qeparo adds a contrasting hillside setting for travellers exploring beyond the waterfront.
- Swim from the pebble shore. The reported sandy seabed and gradual slope begin beyond the uneven rocks at the waterline. Water shoes can make the transition more comfortable.
- Walk the promenade. The stone waterfront promenade connects swimming spots with cafés and tavernas, making it easy to break up a beach day with a stroll or meal.
- See Qeparo’s two sides. The beachfront belongs to lower Qeparo, while the old stone village occupies the hillside above. Visiting both reveals more of the settlement than the shore alone.

Is Qeparo Beach right for you?
Best suited to
- Couples seeking a slower base — Qeparo offers a compact waterfront with swimming, promenade walks and places to eat close together.
- Families comfortable with pebbles — The underwater slope is reported to be gradual beyond the rocky edge, but adults should assess the entry before children go in.
- Gentle swimmers — Conditions beyond the shoreline are reported as gradually shelving, though individual sea and weather conditions still matter.
- Village-focused travellers — The contrast between lower Qeparo’s waterfront and Old Qeparo on the hillside adds interest beyond a simple beach stop.
May not suit
- Sand-beach seekers — The visible shore is pebbles or shingle rather than soft sand.
- Visitors who need easy footing — Loose pebbles and larger shoreline rocks may make movement and water entry difficult.
- Nightlife-focused travellers — Qeparo’s appeal is its slower village atmosphere; Himarë is the more suitable nearby base for a broader evening scene.
Families and less confident swimmers should judge the shoreline entry separately from the gentler seabed reported farther out.

Worth knowingCrowds, timing and practical limits1 note
Qeparo is often described as calmer than the Riviera’s larger beach centres, but that distinction weakens in August. Seasonal beach setups can reduce usable space for independent towels, while traffic and demand increase along the coast. Waterfront prices and the amount of free shoreline space can vary, so check terms before choosing a sunbed, parking place or table.
Qeparo Beach questions
Practical answers to help you plan your visit.
Is Qeparo Beach the same as Old Qeparo?
No. The beach and promenade are in lower Qeparo by the sea, while Old Qeparo is the historic stone settlement on the hillside above. They form parts of the same wider village but offer very different experiences.
What can I combine with Qeparo Beach?
Porto Palermo lies to the north and Borsh to the south, making Qeparo a practical stop on a coastal day between the two. Porto Palermo is known for its bay and fortress, while Borsh offers a much longer beach setting.
Is Qeparo better as a day trip or a base?
Choose a day trip if you are already staying in Himarë and want to sample several Riviera beaches. Stay in Qeparo if direct waterfront access and a slower evening atmosphere matter more than having the wider choice of a larger town.
